ALOR SETAR, June 16 — The Perdana Global Peace Organisation (PGPO) plans to send humanitarian aid to Gaza through all routes simultaneously after two previous attempts were foiled by Israel.
PGPO advisor Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir said last year, the Israelis stopped an attempt to send aid through a land route via Egypt and recently they attacked and seized ships on a similar mission to Gaza.
“Two attempts had failed. This time we will use all routes…land and sea simultaneously. We want to show our solidarity in delivering humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza,” he said after launching “Jom Pakat Pi Tengok Bola”, a football-watching promotion programme, at Menara Alor Setar, here, last night.
He said PGPO felt somewhat helpless now to do anything following Israel’s hampering actions but on humanitarian principle, the aid mission must go on.
“The United Nations failed to stop Israel. Condemnation after condemnation against the belligerent state also has had no effect. The UN had made 80 resolutions to condemn Israel but until today there has been no action. Israel continues to violate international law.
“The international community should impose economic and political sanctions on Israel but unfortunately, Israel is supported by the United States and some other western countries,” he said.
Mukhriz, who is also international trade and industry deputy minister, said despite all this, efforts to help the people of Gaza must continue and Malaysia’s actions in this matter were being watched by the international community.
He said PGPO would seek the assistance of Wisma Putra to carry out the Malaysia Muslim Organisations Consultative Council’s (MAPPIM) plan to organise the Ramadan Convoy Mission to Gaza by gathering some 500 activists for the mission this August.
“We will ask Wisma Putra to discuss with Egypt to open the Rafah border crossing. We will to Gaza not just to send food, but also to celebrate Ramadan with the people there,” he said. — Bernama
