A key feature of the School of Arts and Cultures is that many of our staff and students have been, and in many cases continue to be, both academics and practitioners (e.g. musicians, artists, journalists, PR professionals and film-makers). Our musicians, artists and film-makers continue to perform and show their work on aworld stageand this applies to our students too. For example, in 2017 our folk music students accompanied our Vice-Chancellor on a trip to China where they performed to great acclaim. And next to the University there’s Weston Park Museum, where you can explore natural history, art and events from the city’s social history. For a further glimpse into Sheffield’s past, a visit to Bishops’ House is a must. Everywhere you look in AlUla, wondrous inspiration can be found — in its organic, red-rock shapes, its flourishing green palms and the startling contrast of bright blue sky against desert landscapes.

Public art trail 1 – Brighton Town Centre Discover the city’s public art by taking part in a public art trail. Visit artwork that has been commissioned across the city and take part in public art trails. Socially driven arts and cultural organisations across the UK are invited to apply for secured and unsecured loans between £150,000 and £1 million, with a maximum repayment period until May 2030.

However, we also understand that arts and culture has a wider, more measurable impact on our economy, health and wellbeing, society and education. Our teaching and research isclosely linkedto ourimpact and engagement activitiesand our staff and students are leaders and enablers of creative and cultural practice in the region, nationally and internationally. Several programs are underway to bring the distinct arts and culture of the ancient Nabataeans and other historic residents of AlUla to visitors, including ceramics, leather, textiles, stone-carving and more.
